Both ancestors and spirit guides communicate through intuition, synchronicities, dreams, and even direct energetic transmissions. Understanding their messages requires stillness, attunement, and an open heart.
Elder Deidre R. Smith is a spiritual intuitive, scholar, and advocate for ancestral veneration and decolonized spirituality. With a deep commitment to empowering Black and Indigenous communities—especially women—she works to dismantle colonial narratives that have shaped spiritual beliefs and restricted self-sovereignty.
From the age of six, Elder Deidre recognized her spiritual gifts, not as something confined by religious doctrine, but as a direct connection to the Creator. Raised within Christianity, she became a minister at 20 and was later ordained at 24. However, through years of deep introspection, she came to understand how Westernized Christianity often reinforced colonial structures of power, submission, and control, particularly for Black women. This realization led her on a transformative 20-year journey of decolonization, seeking spiritual frameworks that honor self-sovereignty, ancestral wisdom, and the resilience of African and Indigenous traditions.
With ancestral roots tracing back to Congolese, Angolan, Nigerian, Benin, and Indigenous American traditions, Elder Deidre integrates academic scholarship with spiritual practice. Drawing on her expertise in psychology and organizational systems, she illuminates the ways in which colonial structures have shaped perceptions of pre-colonial spiritual traditions—and how individuals can reclaim their spiritual autonomy.
As a sought-after speaker and mentor, Elder Deidre engages audiences in profound discussions on ancestral connections, spirit guides, and the power of reclaiming indigenous spiritual wisdom. Her work encourages individuals to recognize their own spiritual sovereignty, unlearn harmful narratives, and embrace a liberated, holistic approach to spirituality.
Through her teachings, Elder Deidre offers not just knowledge, but an invitation to reconnect, reclaim, and rise. Whether guiding individuals in understanding their ancestral ties or challenging deeply ingrained beliefs, she stands as a transformative force in the movement toward spiritual and collective liberation.
